Lorsque j \u00ab \u00e9tais \u00e0 l \u00bb \u00e9cole de m\u00e9decine, ma vision de la sant\u00e9 se limitait \u00e0 la compr\u00e9hension des processus pathologiques, des m\u00e9dicaments et des causes physiques. La sant\u00e9 \u00e9tait li\u00e9e au corps, et les choses de l’esprit n’empi\u00e9taient pas sur le monde physique. En tant que jeune croyant en J\u00e9sus, je pouvais voir qu’il dominait \u00e0 la fois le monde physique (comme en t\u00e9moignent ses miracles) et le monde spirituel. Mais je voyais toujours le monde comme deux compartiments – l’un mat\u00e9riel et l’autre immat\u00e9riel. <\/p>\n

Un voyage au Kenya en est la preuve. Clare et moi avons pass\u00e9 plusieurs mois \u00e0 Kijabe, un h\u00f4pital missionnaire au Kenya, apr\u00e8s ma troisi\u00e8me ann\u00e9e d’\u00e9tudes de m\u00e9decine. Ce voyage a remis en question mes hypoth\u00e8ses sur les “deux compartiments” ! Pourquoi les pauvres souffraient-ils de maladies physiques alors que les riches n’en souffraient pas ? Pourquoi portaient-ils un tel fardeau de maladie ? Et pourquoi \u00e9tait-il si difficile de changer la vie des gens en ne s’occupant que de leur sant\u00e9 physique ? Pourquoi la m\u00e9decine ne fonctionnait-elle pas aussi bien qu’elle semblait le faire en Am\u00e9rique ? <\/p>\n

Lorsque nous recherchons les causes profondes de la maladie, nous devons regarder plus loin que les microbes et le microscope. J’ai appris, en revenant aux \u00c9tats-Unis et en terminant un master en sant\u00e9 publique \u00e0 Hopkins, que l’un des meilleurs indicateurs de la mortalit\u00e9 infantile d’une nation est le niveau d \u00ab \u00e9ducation des m\u00e8res. J’ai ensuite appris – en classe et au cours de mon exp\u00e9rience – qu’il existait de nombreux liens entre le corps et l’esprit, notamment des conceptions culturelles qui mettent le corps en danger et des maladies corporelles qui affectent l \u00bb \u00e2me. Nous sommes faits comme des \u00eatres entiers et connect\u00e9s – corps, \u00e2me, esprit ; Dieu nous a \u00e9galement faits pour la communaut\u00e9 – et pour lui-m\u00eame. <\/p>\n

Peu \u00e0 peu, j’ai compris que ma vision (presque inconsciente) du monde en deux compartiments devait \u00eatre remise en question. La r\u00e9alit\u00e9 \u00e9tait beaucoup plus complexe et nuanc\u00e9e, avec d’innombrables liens entre tous. La sant\u00e9 ne se r\u00e9sume pas \u00e0 l’absence de maladie. La d\u00e9finition de l’OMS est utile : “La sant\u00e9 est un \u00e9tat de complet bien-\u00eatre physique, mental et social, et ne consiste pas seulement en une absence de maladie ou d’infirmit\u00e9. Mais comment parvenir \u00e0 un \u00e9tat aussi noble ? Comment comprendre ce qu’est la sant\u00e9 ? O\u00f9 la trouverai-je si je d\u00e9tache mon bateau des amarres de mon monde \u00e0 “deux compartiments” ? <\/p>\n

Il existe un mot h\u00e9breu appel\u00e9 shalom<\/em><\/strong> qui peut \u00eatre traduit par compl\u00e9tude, solidit\u00e9, bien-\u00eatre ou paix<\/em>. Voir Isa\u00efe 26:3 cit\u00e9 dans l’image par exemple. La racine du mot a trait \u00e0 l’ach\u00e8vement ou \u00e0 l’accomplissement ; elle peut \u00e9galement faire r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au contentement, \u00e0 l’amiti\u00e9 ou \u00e0 une alliance de paix. Shalom peut \u00e9galement traduire la sant\u00e9. Dans l’Ancien Testament, la sant\u00e9 ne se r\u00e9sume pas \u00e0 l’absence de maladie, mais \u00e0 une relation restaur\u00e9e. En revanche, notre conception de la sant\u00e9 \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque des Lumi\u00e8res est davantage bas\u00e9e sur la pens\u00e9e grecque, qui distingue le physique et le spirituel. Nous n’avons pas tendance \u00e0 penser qu’il existe un lien entre la sant\u00e9 et les relations bris\u00e9es. Je pense que shalom<\/em> est un meilleur mod\u00e8le conceptuel. <\/p>\n

Ce concept nous aide certainement \u00e0 comprendre que la pr\u00e9occupation de Dieu pour la sant\u00e9 inclut la souffrance physique mais va au-del\u00e0. Dans d’autres articles, nous avons examin\u00e9 la destruction de J\u00e9rusalem. Les p\u00e9ch\u00e9s des chefs du peuple ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crits par J\u00e9r\u00e9mie et mis en contraste avec les desseins de Dieu pour les hommes et les femmes. <\/p>\n

\u00ab Malheur \u00e0 celui qui b\u00e2tit sa maison sans droiture et ses chambres hautes sans justice, \u00e0 celui qui utilise gratuitement les services de son prochain et ne lui donne pas son salaire. \u00bb J\u00e9r\u00e9mie 22:13 <\/p>\n

J\u00e9r\u00e9mie oppose les actions du bon roi Josias en disant : \u00ab \u201cIl a d\u00e9fendu la cause du malheureux et de l’indigent, et il a \u00e9t\u00e9 heureux. N’est-ce pas l\u00e0 ce que c’est que de me conna\u00eetre ? d\u00e9clare l\u201d \u00c9ternel \u00bb. J\u00e9r\u00e9mie 22:16 <\/p>\n

Cela nous aide \u00e0 comprendre ce qu’est la v\u00e9ritable gu\u00e9rison. Il ne s’agit pas seulement de maladies isol\u00e9es, mais de personnes en relation les unes avec les autres. O\u00f9 avez-vous vu des exemples d’une telle gu\u00e9rison ? <\/p>\n
